I read somewhere else that there was an exemption for tourists arriving with negative PCR tests.

even so, it may not be the holiday that many were imagining.

It's confusing whether there is an exemption or not.

To be honest, they are being a bit ridiculous about the whole charade. First, holidaymakers are being told they have to quarantine (by the UK), then they are being mucked about over testing and then travel is cancelled wholesale.

People will remember and vote with their feet when all this unnecessary crap is over, if it ever is!

The article in the original post says:
There will be exceptions to the rule but having a holiday will not be one of them.

I know people who flew out earlier this week and more supposedly going on Sunday so will watch the updates as things are clarified.

I'll be surprised if they remember.  ;)

After initial confusion and some selective media reporting, it seems this does not impact those booked on packages or with pre-booked accommodation on the island.

I can however see possible disruption with flying programmes as TUI. Jet2 and alike might not have need to operate all flights over that "closed" period.

The Canary government website doesn't offer an English language version but Google Translate's rendition of yesterday's announcement does appear to align with the above, i.e. that tourists with booked accommodation and negative tests are OK, despite the Daily Express's seemingly 'fake news' interpretation:

    https://www3.gobiernodecanarias.org/noticias/el-gobierno-de-canarias-acuerda-limitar-la-entrada-y-salida-de-personas-de-tenerife/#
In the case of national and foreign tourists who plan to come to the island of Tenerife on vacation, they can avail themselves of the exceptionalities contemplated by the current regulations on the right of admission in tourist accommodation establishments, where a negative health test must be presented that accredit being free of coronavirus.

The local English language news site https://www.canarianweekly.com/posts/tourists-can-come-with-negative-test-accommodation#ath (linked from the article shared in the previous post) also interprets the situation this way....
  • That announcement appeared online yesterday AM and i was gutted. But as the day wore on, there was stuff on the Telegraph and Independent websites confirming that tourists from outside Spain were not affected. And i got in OK at TFS airport just this AM.
