I have opened a new bank account and thought I was doing so well with my bugeting until....a direct debit I'd forgotten about was taken! Now, the bank has, of course, charged me for the DD taking me over my limit, as well as charging me for something else coming off while over my limit - annoying but I have paid in sufficient funds to cover this. However, they are now charging me for being overdrawn for 7 days by a charge that they gave no notice of. It was only this charge that took me over my limit and I told them I wasn't getting paid until the following week, at no point did anyone say "you will be charged every day until you are back in the black". I am furious  seeing as a) they gave me no notice of this charge so, even if I had the money, I didn't have time to pay it in and b) I thought you couldn't be charged for a charge? Could someone please give me some advice as to how to handle this situation? As if I pay this charge (of £50 no less!), I won't be able to eat for a week!!

If this is a first time offence then call them up and they may reduce or remove it.
You dont say who the bank is but the charge would have been stated in the T&C that came with the account and by signing up to the account you accepted these charges.0
