Missed universal credit phone appointment, what will happen?

My 18 year old son was stupid and forgot about his phone appointment with the work coach today. He ignored the 3 calls. It's only the first appointment after his initial one.
What does he need to do now? I presume he's going to get a huge sanction for this?

Check his UC journal to see if he has been left any messages and/or ring the helpline and ask them what he needs to do.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

What does he need to do now? I presume he's going to get a huge sanction for this? When he realised he had forgotten a DWP appt, why didn't he do the proactive thing and reach out to them? What good did he believe would come from ignoring them trying to contact him 3 times?Perhaps a sanction may focus his attention on being more organised going forward.Hopefully he won't be too heavily sanctioned or at all but he should learn from this.2 -
My 19 year old did the same thing a couple of weeks ago but he was on the phone regarding an apprenticeship at the time the call was due and didn't feel he could not take that call. He apologized on his journal and explained the reason he missed the call and they sent a message asking him to re-book which he has not done despite me badgering him to, so I am half expecting him to get sanctioned although he has had zero payment from them the past two months anyway.0

Due to Coronavirus issues, DWP are taking a more lenient approach. BUT, the claimant needs to engage with the Work Coach as soon as possible, by sending a journal message explaining why they were not available for the phone appointment as well as confirming how they are searching and preparing for work.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
