Perhaps you should read your meter both in the morning when you get up and again in the evening before you go to bed, every day for a fortnight to see when you are using it all and try to associate it with some of your activities.
Blasting 12kw to run the hot tap to rinse and wash stuff is likely to use more than you expect, especially if its only for short runoffs or you let it run down the sink.
Likewise a 10kw electric shower used several times a day for 10-15minutes a throw will also ramp up your consumption.
Just looking at your consumption when the bill comes in and panicking wont help you identify whats using it and when or help you reduce your consumption.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

We have gas for our hob, nothing else.Well, running those on E7 is a formula for bankruptcy ! There's no basic reason why you should be on E7: the day rate is higher than for single rate so it's unlikely to be cost effective. However, you may well be right in thinking that the switching times are incorrect. At 10 minutes per shower, that's over 3000kWh per year if the shower is 10kW.750W Dimplex for 5 months is another 2738kWh.Add all the other normal usage (tumble dryer, electric oven etc) and it's more than likely that you're using 12,000kWh per year.At the very least you should consider getting a gas boiler for the hot water, preferably non-combi with a hot water tank. Perhaps the existing tank could be used? Probably even better to add wet radiators as well for the full benefit. You should be able to see from the meter which rate is in use at any given moment. There may be a flashing cursor. Photograph or video, please, as previously twice requested. When you've established the switching times, consider switching to a single rate tariff. You don't need to change the meter because many suppliers will just charge the same rate for each register.0
