I cancelled my flights to Seoul in March 2020, due lock down and travel restrictions being announced the day before was travel. accepted a voucher, as intended make trip again soon possible. However when tried book for 2021 could not use made that booking with Avios Amex companion voucher. BA would accept voucher any part of booking. The flight by BA, received full cash refund so far good one. But they still refuse change original refund, now have nough next flight, whenever is, am unlikely be able response is
"The voucher you've applied for is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please note you will also not be able to claim any Avios used for this booking. We do advise this in the terms and conditions, which you agreed to when you accepted the voucher. "
How do I claim, any suggestions?.

I’m not fully clear what you are trying to do. If you have a voucher you have to use it to book a flight or BA holiday. If it was an Avios booking, you need to make another Avios booking, if it was a cash booking you can use it for a cash booking. Having accepted a voucher, BA won’t give you a refund for it.
As for an Amex 2-4-1, BA are extending their end date by 6 months, so hopefully you will have time to use it.

  • My query is that I am not able to use the voucher. It was for a cash booking, but I now have enough Avios and companion vouchers that I will not be making any cash bookings. Is it not law that they must make a cash refund if requested? Should I try through my travel insurance?
  • Hi Claire you can “try” anything you want.  Doubt you will get anywhere though. You have a voucher which can’t be exchanged for cash.  Good enough in insurers eyes!   They won’t be interested in the fact you have no use for them now.

I suggest you use them to book something before they expire.

You can try your insurance company, but ultimately if you accepted a voucher that side of the deal is ‘done and dusted’ - you can’t usually change your mind afterwards.

If the flight was cancelled by BA then you had a right to request a refund instead of a voucher at the time. - however once you request and accept a voucher you cannot subsequently change this.
If the flight was not cancelled by BA then any refund would have been based on the fare rules of the ticket purchased (possibly some taxes) so vouchers were a good result for those with non-refundable tickets

Your best bet is to use the voucher. Either for somewhere you want to travel, or for somewhere you think there will be a very high chance of being cancelled. Once the flight is cancelled, don’t accept a voucher but phone up for a refund.
