Beware Argos returns policy!

I've been buying from Argos rather than Amazon for instance, to support high st businesses. I recently purchased an audio system from them even though Amazon had it for £30 less. It was a gift & the person I gave it to didn't like it. We had taken it out of the box & plugged it in - AND THEREIN LIES THE PROBLEM! Because it was taken out of the box I cannot return it! How absolutely ridiculous. I might as well have bought from Amazon. No more electrical purchases from Argos for me, John Lewis or another more reputable shop from now on.

There aren't many places that cater for a change of mind....2

How did they know you'd taken it out of the box, were you careless with the packaging? Penguin is right and JL may not have accepted the return0

It was your decision to buy from Argos.1

There is a reason why the high street is dying and its not just their higher cost base.
Assuming you bought it in person you have no statutory right of return for a change of mind/unwanted gift etc1 -
According to Argos, you have no statutory right to cancel your contract for an online purchase either if the goods had been opened, they'd refuse to accept them and wouldn't refund if that were the case.Sandtree said:There is a reason why the high street is dying and its not just their higher cost base.

A load of nonsense but that's what their social media staff told me.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
If you opened the box like a chimp and destroyed it I can see the problem - if you carefully unpack the items and make sure it can be put back in perfectly they'll never know.

Can't see why Argos are to blame here. Are you sure you didn't buy it, give it as a gift and then see Amazon selling it for £30 less so thought you would try your luck?! Just asking!tallulah52 said:I've been buying from Argos rather than Amazon for instance, to support high st businesses.
