CIFAS marker on credit report

I have had a CIFAS marker added to my credit report due to a fradulent credit application made in my name.
On my report it says I'm a victim of impersonation.
Will having this marker affect me getting credit or is it simply a prompt for companies to verify my identity and leave no doubt its me?
Thanks

If it's in relation to someone else fraudulently using your details - then it's there to highlight to lenders that they need to be doubly sure it's you before granting new credit. You may find this a bit inconvenient - as it may mean you have to take a few extra steps that you usually wouldn't have to (such as submitting ID possibly) - but if someone out there knows your details to make applications in your name - it's better that they get the message that they won't succeed, and overall you'll have less of a headache trying to resolve multiple accounts that someone else may potentially be using to run up debts in your name.0

Sounds like a handy extra layer of protection then? I am glad it's been placed there.0 -
Yes this type of CIFAS marker shouldn't be used as a reason to deny you a service or product, rather as a prompt for the lender to scrutinize your application more thoroughly and perhaps ask for proof of ID / Income / Etc from you.1

I think it remains on credit report for 13 months0
