Adjustable glasses

Has anyone tried or examined the widely advertised adjustable reading glasses? I wouldn't dream of wearing them outside, instead of distance glasses ( Not very attractive), but they seem a good idea, as you can use them for computer work and reading paperwork.
I read a discussion, somewhere, in which two people claimed that the original ones were excellent and lasted for years, but most are now cheap copies from China, with lenses which break easily and are made from visibly flawed , distorted plastic , while the adjustable part breaks or is delivered broken.
