Issue with Garage Sale & Repair - Has anyone had issues with Diesel Particulate Filter?

I believe that I was wrongly advised to buy a diesel vehicle, the result of this and my low mileage is that the diesel particulate filter blocked and I broke down. This was after two previous visits to the garage asking them to investigate a fault. I am disabled and both times was advised that the car was safe to drive, the last was two days before the last breakdown. After the breakdown I researched DPFs and it appears that if you travel low mileage then a diesel engine it not advised. Therefore my case being that I was ill advised. However, surely the garage should have detected this fault or fully investigated this on the previous visits?

There's a motoring section, I suggest you post there.Bvincen4_2 said:I believe that I was wrongly advised to buy a diesel vehicle, the result of this and my low mileage is that the diesel particulate filter blocked and I broke down. DPFs can certainly cause issues on diesel cars that only do short journeys. However, they should indicate when the DPF needs a 'regeneration cycle' and all that's usually required is to go for a short drive on a dual carriageway or motorway at a high speed (say 50-70mph) for 30-40 minutes or so to allow the DPF to be cleaned out and no longer be a problem.. The vehicle handbook should explain all this, but here's a good description: https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/diesel-particulate-filters/PS: Do people really bother with the various sections on this website or do they just click on "New Posts" or use the 'search' fundtion?0

Not sure how you could be wrongly advised to buy a diesel . Unless you specifically mentioned the fact that you are a very low mileage driver .Even then its reasonably easy to keep filter clean .Of course if this it not a new car then who knows how clean the filter is .0
