Voluntary redundancy

Options
My son is taking voluntary redundancy after xmas.  Is he entitled to any benefits? He does have more than £16,000 in his account.  Thanks

Cannot claim Universal Credit until savings below £16000.
Use an online benefits calculator such as on Entitledto.
If your Son has health or disabilities issues there may be benefits he can apply for. But if no such issues, unlikely at the moment.
Suggest your Son looks for work immediately as there will be plenty of competition for jobs available and your Son wants to avoid too longer gap on his CV.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Does he have any debts - paying off them to get to below the £16k threshold may be a good idea although trying to find a new job quickly needs to be at the top of his list.
  • Too late now but is he properly advised. I would not have recommened VR unless he is walking straight into another job.

    Totally agree.
I took VR in 2010 council cull thinking I'd be in a job in no time. Still not had permanent employment. Temporary posts and volunteering only.
