Just curious as to anyone's verdict on the above as a runabout vehicle, 3-5000 miles per year, town driving?

Thanks :)

  • 1000s on the road can't be that bad. Same goes for it's C1 and Aygo cousin.

Engine and gearbox bomb proof if looked after.  Chain cam so no belts to change, just keep the oil fresh.  Electrics not so good.  They can also suffer leaks, check the spare wheel well for water ingress and rust and front carpets for dampness.

Insurance may not be as low as you think as despite being group 1 or 2 they are popular cars for new drivers who have more claims.

Yaris 1.0 is the same engine and gearbox, better electrics and no leaks, but the 1.33 is a better drive and has similar mpg.

My SD has the Aygo version. It's older than the one you're looking at but relatively low mileage. She probably paid a bit over the odds but it had full service history. Apart from routine oil changes, exhaust and bulbs it's been faultless.and a great choice for her

They seem to take the punishment of short journeys pretty well. Mine did 2-3k a year for 10 years without any engine problems and can’t say I was too careful with servicing regularly. Lots of 1 mile journeys around town which can’t be much good for the engine.
  • Thanks for all your replies, all the reviews I read online seemed to give them great reliability to be fair, even without much looking after!
So I've actually got it and paid £3250 for it. There were only 43000 miles on the clock which I though was fair enough for that type of car. Insurance is minimal (just over £200) and tax was nil, seems to get around 50mpg so think I did alright (here's hoping...)
It did have a decent service history, not full but there were receipts and bits and bobs, nothing implied any major work. If I get 3 years out of it I'll be happy :)
