Need sour cream for sour cream in the cake

Dear, who prepared the sour cream cake?
I recently live in uk, I have not quite adapted to the products, or rather to the substitutes for my domestic products. Let me explain - for example, in Russia sour cream - here is sour cream (in English the name sounds the same, but the taste and properties in preparation are slightly different).
Why is this .... I need to make a cake for my anniversary - I will bake for the first time. the recipe is simple but you need a dead sour cream (I saw in the reviews because of the purchase of sour cream from a different manufacturer - some women did not get the cream). Tell me, did you cook cream from local sour cream (for example, smentana bought in Tesco)? or will it fail?
can it be better to buy in a Russian or Lithuanian store? and what brand?
or the last option - can you recommend a cool and simple cream recipe together?

A bit about the cake that I want to cook - just chocolate cakes, sour cream whipped with sugar, serhu for decorating berries and chocolate).

Thanks for any advice!

    oh thanks for the help!

  • Just but regular cream and add lemon juice to it.
    Sainsbury's sometimes sell Sour Cream.
    Try a Jewish Delicatessen.
    Hope that helps.

Would Quark be too thick? That's used in german cheesecakes etc.
    Greek yoghurt?
Lemon added to cream makes it sour- you just have to decided if you want single, double or whipping cream!

There's a recipe for sour cream on a site called 'Petersfoodadventures'. It looks like people have enjoyed this, no vinegar or lemon juice added! Looks like it's just double cream and yogurt.
  • Waitrose normally sell sour cream in small pots.
  • Tesco currently sell sour cream in 150ml size for 85p and M*arks also stock it as do Sainsbobs.
I'm not sure I've understood your question properly, can you add a link to the recipe you want to make so that we can all see what ingredients are needed and what others are also included. There are a lot of people on this site who are experienced bakers and who will be able to help you I'm sure.
