'You and yours' on BBC Radio 4 did a feature on 'the new thrift' today
Old style back in style?
you can listen again at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/youandyours/
(The interesting bit was between 30mins and 45 mins into the show.)
The interviewee said that althought there are more and more people running up huge debts, there is a growing number of 'canny' people and the gap between the two groups is growing. Have a listen

Quite liked to be called 'elegantly economic' rather than just weird or tight,as I'm known by my family at the moment! However,my mortgage will be paid off in January,15 years early. I wonder what I'll be called then!!!
That woman who said that each person could live on AS LITTLE as £50per week , after all necessary expenses, was a bit off the mark. What is she talking about? Opera tickets, gucci shoes, chanel bags?0 -
I heard that woman too - nearly choked on my orange squash! £50 a week is more than some people get to live on full stop. some people just make me shake my heads in disbelief........ it was a very good article tho. Ran upstairs and told OH that elegant economy is obviously the new staying in (which is the new black!) :rotfl:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0

They did highlight the difference between saving money as 'sport' and as 'necessity' to be fair.0 -
