I have been sorting through my share certificates and am a bit confused about RSA.  Despite reading lots of stuff on their website and Google, I can't find an answer.

In 2011 I purchased 1000 RSA shares and have the certificate showing that.

In April 2014 I was sent another certificate dated 10 April 2014 showing that I now have 375 shares, due I understand to a consolidation.

However, I was then sent a third share certificate dated 12 May 2014 showing that I have 275 shares.

I can't find out what happened that caused them to send me two certificates in about a month.

Just wondered if anyone else has RSA shares and can remember what happened back in 2014 to trigger two new certificates.

There was a share split followed by a 1:5 consolidation.

For every 1,000 shares held an addditional 375 were issued.  Resulting in your holding becoming 1,375 in total.

The 1:5 consolidation then resulted in your 1,375 (i.e. divided by 5) becoming 275 shares.

275 shares is the number you now hold.

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, greatly appreciated.

I just had no recollection of two changes happening so close together.

    Not quite :)

The first transaction resulting in an additional 375 shares was actually the result of a 3 for 8 rights issue at 56 pence per new share in 2014. So you would have bought those 375 shares for a total of £210. As you originally had 1,000 shares you then had 1,375 shares after taking up the rights issue.

These 1,375 shares were later replaced by 275 new shares in RSA via a share consolidation / reverse share split.

Thank you, I can't remember all of that happening :)

    They do make things complicated.
