Can My dad claim WTC etc if my brother lives at home and works?

My dad is on little more than minimum wage and works full time.

He owns his own home and so has no mortgage to pay.

He is 60 if that makes a difference

my brother is 25 lives at home and pays him £50 a week towards bills.

when looking at entitled to etc it asks

are you a couple - NO
Do you have dependent children - NO

doesnt give option of non-dependant working relatives at home!

so what may he be entitled to?

your dad can claim in his own right - non dependent relatives do not make a difference to his claim for Tax Credits - although if he is over 60 then he should also try claiming Pension Credit
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I think your dad needs to claim more from your brother, £50 per week

he is currently in college and working 25-30 hours a week as there is no rent to pay (no mortgage) its just a token payment towards electric etc.
