Are there any really good energy firms?

I think it is worth asking oneself whether you are a good customer. My feeling is that people who get in a mess with suppliers are those that don't submit regular meter readings (or ensure that their smart meter is doing it for them). I've used a variety of small suppliers, over the years, and my billing has always been accurate and I have had virtually no need to contact customer services. The biggest thing I've had to do was to remind Outfox the Market to return my credit after a switch, which they duly did, with no further reminders.

Likewise never a problem with multiple suppliers .Sometimes DD goes up and sometimes it goes down a bit like my weekly shopping bill .OP might be better off with British Gas on a Standard Tariff no messing with confusing swapping and sorting out prices .0

What's good? Low cost, good customer service? Like others i've been with quite a few providers over the years and whilst some are better than others in terms of customer service i've never had an experience so bad it's made me move, it's always been based on price. I am on Outfox the Market which has been fine but now moving to PurePlanet based on price and that it came in the top 3 on Which (for what that is worth!)1

Supplier don't necessarily go bust because they are 'bad'. I've just had my fifth supplier go under (Yorkshire Energy) and they were excellent. Of the other four, only Iresa were truly awful, and were clearly so under-resourced and amateur that their demise was inevitable. No free lunch, and no free laptop1

I am with Octopus at present and have no complaints but their tariffs will work out more expensive at renewal. I have seen favourable price / service comments re Green Energy, and would be interested to know what experience positive or negative forum users can report on this co.Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
Overall package (bit more expensive) atm is probably Octopus.
Cheapest and reliable is prob Green. (really easy to get in contact with, hasn't really changed as they've kept growing). One negative with Green though is that they've set themselves up similarly to Yorkshire Energy. Currently none of their customers are likely to be making any gross margin for them. Meaning they're reliant on investment to keep them going. If they're unable to receive investment next year then they might go bust. (however you can just go through SoLR again).
Avoid Bulb - Legacy Big 6 style supplier wrapped in "We care about customers" clothing by their single tariff.
You then have:
So Energy - consitently ranked well in Citizens Advice
Igloo Energy - normally ranked well in Citizens Adgice. single variable tariff, are doing a lot of add-ons and have had investment recently for this.
Avro - used to be well regarded by MSE people, unsure on recent form.0
