Car Insurance Renewal far cheaper than comparison sites!? First time ever!

I paid £189 last year for my car insurance. On the renewal I've been quoted £187.

Thought £2 saving for a an extra years no claims seems a cheek, got 11yrs NCD.

But every comparison site is quote me way higher. Cheapest quote I've got is £256 with a company I've never heard of.
Other than an extra year NCD nothing else has changed!

Car is to be insured in January.

Anyone else getting higher quotes from what they paid last time? I've never had this before. Seems like 11 years no claims is forbidden and I must pay extra for them ha!

Should I just go for the renewal or should I ring some places up and see if I can get cheaper quotes that way instead?

Insurers have different period of no claims discounts.  Many stop discounting after year 6.  So, the increase in years may just be purely for admin purposes for when you move to another insurer in the future.

You could be with an insurer that doesnt have year one discounting.

    Up to you.

I couldn't find cheaper than my current insurers' prices this year, either for motor or home insurance.

An insurers (relatively) fixed costs are such that sub £200 premiums are very difficult to beat, irrespective of risk.

I always do two compare sites and choose the best quotes (from insurers I've heard of) make sure it's like for like too.
This year I've broke the mould and not even bothered doing compare stuff. Went straight to my insurers whom I've got a multi-car and home insurance with and told them to try harder with the renewal price. They did without fuss, £60 off which matched last years price, not forgetting they had already refunded £50 back during this pandemic earlier this year, so happy. Admiral BTW, so over the last 12 months my two cars and home insurance have cost £410 with the refund, the next 12 months £460.
  • My renewal is due later this month. I received my renewal quote from my current insurer (Admiral - Multi Cover - 3 x cars + home insurance) and promptly checked other suppliers via comparison websites. I found a cheaper quote (£300). I contacted Admiral, who beat the cheapest quote by another £130, making a saving of £430 in total from my original renewal quote. Result.
Another example of following Martin's advice saving me money. He must of saved me literally thousands of pounds over the years. Thanks.

I always found by phoning Admiral that they would knock a big slice of the renewal quote... never any hoops to jump through, just say better prices out there and they slashed theirs.
