If you don't need to drive your car, start it once a fortnite and leave it running for 20 mins, taking adequate precautions, obviously, and assuming the charging side is ok.

Invest in a really good set of jump leads, if not disconnect battery if your not going to be using it for a couple of weeks

    Update by OP.

Firstly, thank you for all replys.

I'm now looking at purchasing a Lion AGM 096 new battery.

Euro Car Parts £176.99. Are Lion just ok, or highly recommended?

There appears to be a wide divergence by posters on how long it takes a battery to go soft when parked up.

Is this due to battery make / age, car model, garage / open air, just
    luck or or a combination?

    That's ridiculously expensive.
For half that, you can have an Exide AGM 096 - https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/exide/ek700/
    £120 for Bosch or Varta - https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/bosch/s5a08/ or https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/e39/

Lion are cheap'n'cheerful ECP own-brand. Well, "cheap" is relative, clearly.

Even Halfords are cheaper, and they are rumoured to be Yuasa batteries.
I'd stick with Yuasa, Varta or Bosch, from Tayna as AdrianC suggests.
You then need to drop the old one down your local recycling centre, they are worth £5-£10 as scrap so don't pay anyone to take it away.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Lion batteries are not that great by all accounts.  Sounds like you haven't applied the discount to the advertised price with ECP?
If you have a GSF branch near you then you can get a DriveTec 096 battery for £70. I have used them and they are OK.
However if you buy local you can get a replacement under warranty. If you buy by post/ebay/amazon then I am not sure the cost and delay in sending off a battery under warranty would be a worthwhile exercise.
    Are Exide batteries any good?
Also is there anywhere to take an old battery and get that '£5-£10 as scrap'?

All depends on length of warranty, when comparing always look at warranty as well.

    Thanks for reply.

I have GSF & ECPs near by.

Lion £176.99 is after 40% discount. (Bump price up then discount  :o).

Scrapyard, but they won't give you £10 ;)

Otherwise a quick google will pick up a local metal recycler who will pay more.
I just drop mine at the Council recycling centre ("tip" in Olde English), it might help to reduce the council tax increase to 4.99999998 % rather than 4.99999999% next year :)
