Gym membership cancellation <7 Days

Long story short.
Membership was taken out and within ten minutes, the individual changed their mind. They were brushed off saying the membership cannot be cancelled, and they are tied into 5 months (2 free, then 3 full price).
What are their options? Only been once, and has not been a week since signing up. Unable to get any follow up response from their members information email.
Many thanks.

Did "the individual" sign up online or in person?0

Considering they have used the gym once, yet tried to cancel within ten minutes, I can only assume it was in person.MattMattMattUK said:Did "the individual" sign up online or in person?
Either that or they live close and legged it after signing up?1 -
Isn't there something about a cooling off period ending as soon as the service is used? If the individual has used the gym, doesn't that limit their options to the cancellation terms they agreed to at sign-up?0

Unless it’s in the gyms terms and conditions, there won’t be a cooling off period for someone who signed up in person anyway. Although 10 minutes is a very quick change of mind. The individual’s options are likely to be limited to continue paying and continue using the gym, or continue paying and don’t use the gym.
Have they read the terms and conditions they signed up to - what do they say about cancellation? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Damn the gym is sneaky.. did some reading prior to this, and have learnt a lot. So, you "sign up/register" an account online, they don't take any banking details at that point. On your initial visit, they verbally discuss the sort of terms, take your details and then ask you to verbally confirm agreement.
Doesn't look like theres a way out here.0 -
What's sneaky about that? I'd say it's the opposite. They're providing a built-in cooling-off period. You, sorry, the individual had a chance to reflect after registering online and again in person.Adrian1999 said:Damn the gym is sneaky.. did some reading prior to this, and have learnt a lot. Or was the individual forced to agree when they visited in person?0 -
Making payment doesn't set when there is a contract formed.Adrian1999 said:Damn the gym is sneaky.. did some reading prior to this, and have learnt a lot. There is a contract when there is an offer and acceptance of that offer. The question is what exactly were you signing up to online.
However, why did they change their mind within 10 mins? Is it just a change of mind? Or was there a reason for the change of mind (which may - emphasis on may - give it's own right to cancel)? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
