Why don't you want smart?
Nearly all suppliers will be under pressure to install smart meters0 -

I don’t need a smart meter. I can enter the meter readings myself.
The little monitor you get to show your energy usage is a gimmick that I bet most don't look at and end up slinging it in a draw out the way
Sorry davythree can't answer your question hopefully you will find a supplier able to fit a dumb meter for you0 -
Why does the type of meter matter - its the same leccy or gas that comes through it so why should it matter whether its smart, dumb, green yellow or red.
Suppliers are being fined if they don't fit smart meters and the way they are encouraging their customers is to either make them pay and/or make the cheaper tariffs conditional on having one.
You choice of course but If you really want a dumb meter then be prepared to pay for the privilege and don't moan about it. (just my opinion you understand)

LOL there are plenty of "cheap tariff's" using a dumb meter and a smart meter does nothing for a customer no advantage at all it's no inconvenience giving your supplier a reading monthlymatelodave said:Why does the type of meter matter - its the same leccy or gas that comes through it so why should it matter whether its smart, dumb, green yellow or red.

Smart meters arnt that smart at all.....0 -
Thanks for your helpful input!! But it’s a good point, what does it matter which meter I use? So why should they charge me if it’s just the same? And why are they being fined for not installing them? Makes you wonder...matelodave said:Why does the type of meter matter - its the same leccy or gas that comes through it so why should it matter whether its smart, dumb, green yellow or red.

The government are trtying to get all properties to have smart meters and not not meeting their targets for installing them. As this is a money saying website, have a smart meter and save yourself £120.davythree said:

It's not just the same to them. Most suppliers wont be stocking many (if any) non-smart meters so they'd have to install a secondhand or refurbed one.davythree said:

There's no advantage to them to come out on your whim for a dumb meter, but there is if you have a smart meter - it adds to their tally of smart installs and integrates better into their billing processes so you'll have find a supplier who will do it for nowt, pay whatever the supplier charges or stay with a paygo.
Even the smaller suppliers are having their bits squeezed to install smart meters and their licence conditions oblige them to get up to speed with the data Communications Company to implement their use and OFGEM have threatened to impose sanctions and fines on those who aren't getting on with it. https://www.current-news.co.uk/news/ofgem-threatens-to-strip-nine-suppliers-of-their-licenses-over-failure-to-join-dcc
Interestingly the standard Standard Licence Conditions prohibit the imposition of a cost to install a smart meter but not any other type AFAIK

That link is over a year old
This from Which"The government has pushed back the deadline for the smart meter rollout until 2024, and you do have the right to refuse a smart meter if you don't want one.
Energy companies have been asked to take 'all reasonable steps' to install smart meters in every home.
If it hasn't already, your energy supplier will contact you between now and 2024 to arrange an installation. But remember that you can still say no to having a smart meter installed.
If you really don't want a smart meter, make this clear to your supplier and they may be able to set up a smart meter to work in 'dumb' mode, with all the communications switched off."
So get a dumb smart meter
