Planning permission - differance between objection or neutral

HI - I'm just wondering if anyone knows the effect of objecting or neutral - i know it might seem obvious.  I have some issues with a neighbors planning permission for a balcony - so spoke to someone at the planning department as the plans submitted dont have photos, with photos i think it brings a bit more clarity to the situation.  I thought i was essentially sending them an email for advice on what i was bringing up, also asked them what the difference is between the two in terms of effect on the planning permission - but now my comments have been registered on the application as neutral.  Wonder if its possible to change this to an objection or withdraw the comments if i wanted ? Didn't think the comments were going to up as thought i was just asking for advice !

  • The planning process is very public, as you have found out. If you want to make a further comment, and an actual objection, just make it - it will also be registered. Multiple comments are quite possible.

"This application does not have sufficient information to allow me to make a decision" is a neutral comment on the application. How else would you interpret that?

The application is the application - the information submitted with it is the information the application has to be decided upon, unless the planning body actively request more information. Your neutral comment may well accord with their own views. They will bring that comment, and their views on the information provided, into their decision-making. They may reject it for inadequate information, they may delay it while they request more information.

If you make an actual objection, they will take that into account, too. The flag of "support"/"neutral"/"object" is probably the least relevant part of it, because they use the content of the comment to help them decide. The flag is pretty much just a statistical thing so that they can see at a glance how many of each they've had.
