Faulty HP printer

On 5/7/2020 My SIL installed & registered my new HP 8015 inkjet all-in-one printer. Early Saturday morning I heard a strange noise coming from it & on inspection could hear a sparking type sound & could smell burning plastic. I contacted HP & they’ve agreed it’s a hardware fault; they are offering to send out a ‘refurbished’ printer as a replacement. I’m not sure whether I should accept a refurbished one - mine is only 5 months old & hardly used as because of lockdown there’s been no choir or workshop stuff to print. As it’s a hardware fault, should I press for a refund or a new unit? Thank you.

Refurbished is all you would get after this length of time.

No problem with getting a refurb

You have a used printer, they are merely putting you back in the position you were before the fault, why do you think you are entitled to a brand new model?

Outside of the manufacturer's warranty HP have owe no liability to you. You have your consumer rights which are with the retailer (the assumption being you didn't purchase the printer directly from HP), and the remedies they can offer are repair, replacement or refund, but they can also take into account eh usage you've had from the printer too.
  • A refurbished printer form the manufacturer will be as good as new and with a 12 month guarantee, these will be printers with minor faults out of the box that the manufacturer has fixed, they may also have been very low use demo machines.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
