Lloyds used to allow you to order a cheque book by sending them an SMS message. Not sure if they still do, I last ordered one in 2010 and I'm still only a third of the way through it!

RBS and Lloyds you do it via the automated option.
RBS and Nat West will allow you to do it online provided it's a replacement cheque book.
If it's your first cheque book then a branch visit with ID is required.

You can also request your first cheque book via chat - I didn't need to go to a branch

    Lloyds copy and paste -

"You can order a new cheque book in the following ways:

    • Online Use our Self Service form: Select "Current Accounts" from the menu, then "Order a cheque or paying-in book". For security reasons, note that if you've changed your address within the last 3 months, you'll need to order your cheque book either in branch or by calling us.
    • By SMS You can order your cheque book by sending a text message from your mobile phone. Find out more at Ordering by SMS.
    • In branch Use our branch locator to find your nearest branch.
    • By phone Call 0345 3000 000 with your account details ready and order over the phone."
Quaint or not, they do still have their uses.

  • RBS. A first cheque book request has to be made via telephone banking.

"To order a cheque book or a paying-in book:

    1. Log in to your Digital Banking service at www.rbsdigital.com (opens in a new window)
    2. Select 'Payments and transfers' from the left hand menu
    3. Under the 'Credit/cheque books' heading select either 'Order cheque book' or 'Order paying-in book'
    4. Choose which of your accounts you wish to order against and click 'Next'
    5. Click 'Confirm' to place your order"
