Why is Lidl the only shop on the high street that does not label the packaged fruit and veg with sell-by dates?
Heaven help us if all the shops did this!

They are not the only ones, Tesco do it too.  Surely you know whether something is fresh or not and do not need dates.

They have codes like 5002 so it’s week 50 day 2. No idea what day of the week Lidl starts their week with

It's not always as easy to check on the freshness of pre packaged fruit and veg as it is loose produce. I'd prefer them to show a best before date as well TBH.

It isn't, Tesco started doing this a while back now

I don't think anyone needs dates, but around this time of year it's nice to have them as a treat. Mind the stones.

There is no U.K law to state a best before date on any fresh produce.
If it is a processed product (Cole slaw or bagged salads for example ) then it must state a date.
If households cannot use common sense of smell and visual on fresh produce then they dump it, if they had a date on it then they would dump it without any smell or visual without hesitation.
The food we dump In the U.K. would feed those in poverty In this country 7-9 times over.
Hopefully come 01-01-2021 if we don’t get a deal with the EU where the tariffs on food from the EU will be 8-34% many people will wake up and stop wasting food and money.
Will not stop imported foods being in the U.K. but we will certainly not be flooded with over production like we have been in last 2-3 decades.
A good time to start finding and viewing those recipe books we have all accumulated !

I think you'll find that there's lots of people over on the Old-style board who've been doing that for years.
I've just used some carrots, leeks & celery I froze months ago as leftovers along with some leftover roast lamb that was also in the freezer to make a (Hairy Bikers) shepherds pie with home-cooked mashed potato and I'll add some savoy cabbage to the mash for texture. That also came out of the freezer.
Various threads titled 'love food, hate waste' and similar on that board.

I think the problem is not so much with people waking up to not wasting food but more that they have no idea what to do with leftovers.
