CCJ against a car garage

Options
Have issued a CCJ against a car garage for unsatisfactory work carried out to my vehicle. I believe I have strong evidence to back up my claim but can’t seem to find anyone in my area (kingston upon Thames) to represent and give me legal advice. The garage are defending the CCJ so now I need free legal help or they will get away with it.... again. Can anyone advise? Thanks

There is generally a rule with legal advice, if you want good advice you need to take it ahead of action and you need to pay for it. Most solicitors will be uncomfortable about taking on a case that has already been started and "free" legal representation is something you will not get.

You are able to present the evidence yourself, the judge will decide based on the merits of the evidence presented. If you think you have a solid case you do not really need a legal representative, of course if you have just applied for a CCJ without a proper legal basis or adequate evidence this will probably end up costing you quite a lot...
  • Free and legal advice don't go hand in hand.

So have you got a CCJ against the garage???  Or are you about to go to a court?   A CCJ is only issued if they loose and do not pay.
  • What is the value of your claim? (That will generally determine which "track" it takes, and thus the potential impact on costs awards).

And as said above ... you've issued a Court Claim not a CCJ.

Do you have Home Insurance? If so, you may have legal expenses cover. If you still live at home with your parents, if they have Home Insurance, you should be covered by it as you are a member of the household.

If you don't have legal expenses cover, then you are going to have to pay for advice, but you can get advice over the phone or internet.

Have a look at Redwood Legal channel on YouTube for advice on representing yourself in court.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Did you take out the legal advice option with your car insurance?  What you describe is the sort of thing it is for.

Legal expenses attached to Motor insurance is in relation to recovering uninsured losses from non-fault motor accidents. It wouldnt typically cover consumer disputes with a company even if the service was in relation to a car.

How many days a week do you work for free?

If you wanted legal advice you really need to have gotten it before submitting your claim form. Assuming your claim is something that is likely to go into the Small Track (under £10,000 of property damage) then legal costs are pretty much prohibited and therefore you wont find interest from the no win no fee crowd.

Whilst not related to parking there is a newbies thread pinned to the top of the parking fines sub section of the Motoring board here which describes the process of small track claims and will help you understand the timeline etc.

CAB will give you basic legal advice, if you want something more you'll need to pay for the years of training the solicitor has had to put in to get qualified to give you legal advice.
