Hi all, i've got a 2.5 year old Bosch microwave which has a faulty wheel (that allows you to set the time) and needs repair. I would normally attempt a fix myself but there doesn't seem to be any info online about this specific machine/problem. So i decided a profesional repair would be in order since the machine is built in and was about £500 new.
Most people seem to offer a call out fee plus parts so i'm worried the bill will be quite a lot. Looking about I notice British Gas will fix and cover it for £99 plus £2pm for 12 months. £123 in total. This seems reasoble to me but I wondered if anyone else had any suggestions or better deals before I take the plunge?

Thanks

faulty wheel - just the handle or the timer itself?
Anyway, you can look for most spare parts online.
Or post here the model and the exact problem - and somebody will help you.

Why not give Bosch a call themselves, see what they quote for a fixed fee callout.

    What model?

Thanks for the replies. I think Bosch were £90 call out plus parts but obviously its hard to know the cost of the parts. I've had a look online and can't really see much.
Its a Bosch Serie 8 Built-in microwave model BFL634GS1B. The display is fine, the Microwave works as expected but we can't set it for anything other that the preset 1 minute. The controller wheel doesn't seem to make any difference. It seemed to be sticky for a day or two before giving up completely.

Sounds like some liquid has gotten in behind the wheel.

Possibly although I don't recall that and neither does my wife. There certainly isn't any sign of it.

Based on those prices I guess i'd be best off getting a service plan with British Gas which covers the cost of the parts. That was really helpfull though thanks.

Be aware that  a new plan doesn't cover any pre-existing faults. Essentially, it'll be fraud.
Not that personally I have any sympathy to this sort of companies, especially as they often deem a fault to be beyond economical repair and pay your the remaining cost of the appliance, not the price of a new one.

The BG Home Repair service is specifically for existing repairs and future cover for the year. They have two types of service, a one off repair for £145 or, as the OP explained, a repair and 12 months cover for £99 and £2 per month for 12 months, eg, £123. No brainer which one to go for really.

as neilmcl said, they offer a repair followed by service. I'm sure I could take out an insurance and leave it for a couple of months an claim but it would be fraud as you suggest plus I kind of want to get it fixed. Mainly because it was a £600 odd microwave (didn't pay that much)
