Can I still get out of John Lewis BB contract if past their 14 days if they do not deliver?

Hyperoptic run their own network, BT/Openreach also have a FTTP option. In my new build I have FFTP Openreach modem and a Hyperoptic socket as well. There was actually no traditional phone line fitted, if I want a phone line it would come over the broadband connection (both BT and Hyperoptic connections have an option and socket for this). The Hyperoptic network is private, the same as the Virgin network, the BT FFTP is owned by Openreach, but few providers offer the FFTP service so you will be limited in what you can get.
If you have gone down the John Lewis Broadband route what they will be doing is installing a completely new line, or at least looking to, which is why it will involve an engineer's visit.
I opted for BT's Fibre, Hyperoptic were abysmally slow in being able to provision the service, despite everything being installed already they told me it would take a minimum of six months to make the service live, they now send me junk mail every week asking me to sign up. BT's option was reasonably priced and I went for the 150Mbps option, I ordered online, the router turned up the next day and the service was live when I plugged it in.2 -
thanks for the info. Hmm my living room is going to get quite jumbled then if they will be installing and additional socket! All the others are doing nothing and taking up space. Can you get them uninstalled because it is just clutter. Hyperoptic I don't intend to use yet there is a line in and bt openreach modem and fttp likewise (if I get setup with JB) is taking up even more space with no use.MattMattMattUK said:Hyperoptic run their own network, BT/Openreach also have a FTTP option. I wonder if the BT man will be able to take the old FTTP stuff with him? since it is what takes up the most space and it is BT man dealing with BT tech.
So I am thinking now...which services would be available that I could use to make use of the hardware I already had? Hyperoptic obviously, but who else? what about talk talk or shell energy, etc which is on the MSE cheap broadband page would those make use of the existing BT FTTP stuff in my flat already? or will they have to be installed on a new line as well?
Just planning for contingencies if the JL doesn't get installed tommorow and they say it is not suitable which is what the email they sent said may be the case but they never followed up to confirm either way.

Below is a link which shows who operate FTTP and they will operate through the Openreach FTTP system, but not all will operate in your area.
https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fttp-providers
If I were you I would go with BT or Hyperoptic. BT's entry level FTTP offering us cheaper £26 pcm and faster than John Lewis Broadband, Hyperoptics is a bit faster still and the same price, £26 pcm, neither charge line rental on FTTP.0 -
£26 per month is not better than £15 per month which is the JB price I paid, including the £40 giftcard. Now I have to pay £49.99 for line install but that is still only £20 odd a month which is still considerably better than £26 per month.MattMattMattUK said:Below is a link which shows who operate FTTP and they will operate through the Openreach FTTP system, but not all will operate in your area.

On the other hand I saw hyperoptic offers for £20 or less so, considering the install of £49.99 for 'normal' broadband it would be better for me to go with hyperoptic since the line is already in.
But alas I knew non of this when signing up for JLB.
btw do you still have to pay that reactivation rubbish if on fttp? if so then that would change matters and would still be better to install good old adsl.

UPDATE: haha, finally got through on the phone number after just leaving it on speakerphone and letting the queue run down. Not cut off this time! So the silly sods never bothered to update me that it is not eligible to my property as they said, as we had surmised above, it is fttp only.
Glad I rang now! as I would have been waiting around for nothing. They were very helpful once I finally got through and the lady put me through to cancellations and said I will be refunded for everything.
All good
I am perfectly fine with mobile wifi for a while yet and I think I will go with hyperoptic. oh unless they say 6 months to me as well! haha. in which case now way!
Given these recent threads I now have a much clearer idea of what I can get and the technology in my apartment, as I was ignorant at the initial time I ordered before since I hadn't moved in yet.
So I can feel now I can make a more informed decision at my leisure. The mobile internet I must say has been a lifeline in the meantime!

Fair enough, the cheapest price for John Lewis Broadband I could see was around £28 pcm once line rental was factored in.GervisLooper said:£26 per month is not better than £15 per month which is the JB price I paid, including the £40 giftcard. Hyperoptic have intro rates, so you will pay a reduced rate for the first six months of a two or three year contract, then the price goes up quite a bit for the remainder of the term.GervisLooper said:On the other hand I saw hyperoptic offers for £20 or less so, considering the install of £49.99 for 'normal' broadband it would be better for me to go with hyperoptic since the line is already in.
Always worth doing a little bit of extra research, or asking on here, someone usually knows how things work.GervisLooper said:But alas I knew non of this when signing up for JLB.
Not that I am aware of, the kit is there and it works, or it is not there and so does not. It would be worth double checking at the time, but as far as I am aware, no there so no reactivation fee.GervisLooper said:btw do you still have to pay that reactivation rubbish if on fttp? if so then that would change matters and would still be better to install good old adsl.
Good luck on the rest, if you are lucky hopefully you will have working broadband next week.0
