Energy Switching without penalty?

I can only switch energy providers without paying a penalty if I have less than 50 left on my energy contract. Can I start switching energy providers before the 50 days is up if I am close to the 50 limit as the switching process takes around 14 days?

I believe it's 47 days and I wouldn't initiate a switch outside this period.1

Check first if your tariff have any kind of exit fee, also depend of the supplier you could change without cost to another tariff without exit fee.0

As long as the actual switch happens during the last 49 days of your fixed contract period there can be no charges for leaving. You can request the switch before the last 49 days, it is just the actual switch date that matters.Do take care though as all suppliers are under pressure to process a switch request promptly and you cannot specify the switch date when you request it, so don't do it too early...0
