How long are your searches taking?

My solicitor applied for my searches in mid November, he updated me today and said it's unlikely they will be in before 20th January! I had a couple of house sales fall through before this one and all searches were in within 3 weeks so I was a bit shocked at this update (this is a different council though).
Is anyone elses searches taking forever?!

Searches on our house (selling) took over 8 weeks. You've also got Christmas & New year delays to factor in.
The house (2nd attempt) we're now hoping to buy is in the same LA so we're hoping to buy both the searches & survey from previous buyer who pulled out. Our new vendors are desperate to complete very quickly or they will lose their purchase, as are we, so as to minimise time we spend in temporary accommodation.
