UC Entitlement

I've managed to secure a permanent job as of yesterday but I don't start until January as it's in education and they are closing for Christmas very soon. I know that I have to let the job centre know -  am I still going to be entitled to UC between now and January when I start as I'm not looking for work, but waiting for a job to start?

  • Yes you will. UC take into account earnings during an assessment period.

You would still be expected to fulfill whatever you have agreed to do on your commitments, until your change actually happens.
As long as you have a decent work coach, it shouldn't be a problem.

Your UC does not end when you start work. When you receive your first earnings payment this will be taken into account and may then result in no UC being payable. However, even if this is the case, depending on the timing, you may receive your final UC payment after work has started.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
