Are Tandem legit??

I opened a 1 year fixed saver with Tandem last week.  At the time, it had the best rate of interest and it was mentioned on the Savings pages of MSE website.  I tried to make a payment into the new Tandem account from a Lloyds current account.  When I entered the sort code and account number, the message said that it couldn't verify who it was being paid to, even though it was my account.  I went into the Lloyds branch the next day to see if they could help and was told by someone there that the Tandem website was not secure.  She advised me NOT to make the payment.  It's made me very wary.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?

That is because you do not have a unique account number.  it uses a 3rd party collection.

The issue over payee name: yes.  Their bank telling you the website is not secure: not seen anyone say it.  it is showing as secure on chrome.

it shows that the *connection* is secure, this does not mean the website or anything to do with it is secure.

Yes they are legit. They have a full banking licence in the UK. Purchased Harrods Bank 18 months ago as well.
  • I would avoid at all costs, having issues with them myself..if only I had read reviews on their Facebook page and trustapilot

Just went to their page. How "secure" can be a multi-million pound institution (especially a  bank!) when their "Learn more" link on cookies leads to "Page not found"? Couldn't they pay some student to browse their page for 30 minutes to find all quirks and errors? How much does that cost?  Not even to mention proper security of their page, vulnerability and pen tests.
I left the page and won't be coming back, certainly won't be putting any money there to find out what other surprises they have to offer.

I have had a similar experience with several savings providers. Not all providers are signed up to Confirmation Of Payee, that's why you get the message about not being able to verify the owner of the account. This is expected and normal for a smaller savings provider. Bank branch staff are generally clueless, so it is best to take anything they say with a large pinch of salt.
