RAC Approved dealer - is the 82 point check free when buying a used car from an RAC approved dealer?

Options
Hi

I have just bought a new used car, they are advertised as an RAC approved dealer and say they will give the car and 82 point check and inspection.

After a few days I noticed that I didn't have the certification for the 82 check, so rang them and they said that that would cost an extra fee.

Are they allowed to do this or should it be free as their website has no mention of a fee for a service just that all cars will have this check.

Can anyone help, Ive tried asking around and people are seeming quite evasive on this issue so any help would really be appreciated.

The car is having a few niggles that I thought should have come up on any checks and the garage are quite reluctant to fix these issues so I am trying to gather as much info as possible.

Are they saying they'd charge for checking, or they'd charge for a piece of paper to say they checked?

The checks are not exactly rocket-science, or particularly onerous.

  • They are now saying that they will charge for the check, the check hasnt been done.

But both the RAC website and their website do not mention a fee, I have asked RAC about it and they just want details of the garage and will not answer my questions.

So I am trying to find out if anybody has knowledge of the process and if they are entitled to ask for a fee for it. I am still hopeful that I can sort things out with the garage but just want to know where I stand.

It seems obvious from their website that they say it is part of the cost of the car, so they have been very naughty in now trying to charge me but I just want that confirmation that RAC do not allow them to charge for it.

Frankly, I wouldn't pay a tenner for that list of quick-once-over.

It's marketing guff borrowing somebody else's trusted brand, no more than that.
