Car Insurance Renewal Question - Recent Claim done

Hello There,
I am fairly new in posting any question in this forum so pardon me for any mistake in advance or my knowledge around the topic.
I have a question around my car insurance renewal. For that just a bit of background information - I have a multicar insurance with Aviva from quiet some time, 4 years now. Policy is on my name and me and my wife both are named drivers on each other vehicles, although I occasionally drive her Toyota Auris but she never drove my BMW ever. We recently (in Nov 2020) had a very bad experience of theft, when someone stole "catalytic convertor" of our Toyota Auris (68 plate) from our covered (not garage or locked) car parking space in back. I decided to go for a claim first time in my experience of driving in UK in last 10 years. And, it is renewal time now and I received a fresh quote from Aviva for roughly £1600 whereas it was used to be £1070 around, which I usually pay yearly. When I called up Aviva for Claim, for repair the Toyota, I was told that even though I am second named driver on this car but multicar policy is on my name so I'll impacted and I have lost of unsecured 5 Yrs No Claim Bonus (yes my bad I could have given some more money to kept is secured). And I got an impression that it is because I was associated with that car in particular but not necessarily this is the case if I got with my car BMW..
My question is - to keep the cost minimum, is it possible (rather legal) to buy two separate policies this time i.e. I'll apply for my BMW only and my wife will buy separately for her Toyota only. And we will not name any extra driver on our cars? I tried getting a quote on MoneySupermarket.com and because it was asking if I had a claim in last 5 year, I am not entirely sure should my answer be Yes or No, specially if I am trying to get a quote on the Car (BMW) on which I didn't made any claim?
Sorry for a long post but just trying to explain my situation so that you can revert on informed facts. Hope you understand.

Theft claims normally go against the policyholder and so if you were the policyholder then you would have to declare the claim on any insurances you are named on (as a policyholder or named driver). Your wife will presumably have a clear record and so no harm in continuing to add her to your insurance as a named driver (it may reduce the premiums).
Multi-car policies are a bit rarer and so I am not sure how standardised processes are, certainly worth double checking with your current insurers that their processes would agree with the above.0 -
It sounds like you had a multi-car policy in your name, so YOU made the claim for one of the cars covered and the answer to "have YOU made any claims in the last 5 years" is always going to be yes (well it will be for 5 years).Your wife has not made any claims, but she didn't have a policy in her name, so won't have any no claims bonus either.Might be easier talking to an insurer directly, either with an online chat (where you can keep a copy of the conversation) or by telephone. It might be that separate policies will be better for you both. Investigate that and ask them to quote with just the main driver insured, then see how it changes with the other person added as a named driver. It can increase, make no change, or even decrease the quote. I've seen all 3.
