Along with an aerosol of PlusGas and a small thumb-can of engine oil (or graphite powder or silicone spray or whatever's most appropriate).You need converting Adrian;
WD40 is an excellent penetrator and lubricant,...other uses include tar/bitumen remover, aftershave lotion, under-arm deodorant, ant killer and toilet cleaner.
What more do you want from a tin that’ll cost you £2.50 !

I'll grant you it's probably good at ants. Especially with a match to the propellant.0

WD40 is a solvent and degreaser, it is certainly not an excellent lubricant.1

....I have even tried it with gin....although I think I prefer the smell of GT85 which is regularly on sale at Aldi...(and I think is actually more of a lubricant...)

Pencil lead (Graphite) can also be used. Assuming that you have a pencil (not coloured) grind up a little into dust and if you have any solvent (e.g. nail varnish remover) mix into that and create a paste. Apply that, the solvent will evaporate leaving the graphite behind.

WD40 must be one of the greatest marketing successes of the century.
Plenty of products around that do the same job at half the price.

Wipe the gas struts with a cloth doused in WD40 and give the hinges etc a little squirt for good measure.
WD40 is the one of the greatest products ever invented. I reckon the Covid19 vaccines consist of 99% WD40.
WD40 stands for ‘water displacement- version 40’...I often wonder what was wrong with the previous 39 versions.
They didn't displace water?

EdGasketTheSecond said:Silicon spray is much better for this than wd40. In fact you can buy silicon spray made by wd40 and it is very good. But standard wd40 will not work for long and may affect seals.I'd second that.WD40 will leave a coating that will attract dust and this will turn in to a paste which'll build up around where the rod goes through the gas seal - I don't think that's ideal. Silicone spray - from my experience - evaporates its propellent quickly leaving only the dry silicone lube coating behind, and this shrugs off most things. And while you are at it, give your door aperture seals a good spraying too - it'll help preserve them as well as prevent your door sticking shut when frozen :-).1

WD40 doesn’t attract anything,...least of all dust, and it’s so vaporous it can’t turn into a paste.
Give your gas struts a light wipe (not a squirt) with a clean cloth or a bit of bog paper doused in WD40 and all will be well.
My mate swears by WD40,...he used the above method to cure his haemorrhoids years ago and never had a problem since. It’s truly a miracle product with no-end of uses.

Just wipe with Mr sheen, or whichever furniture polish with silicone in is under your sink
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
