Basic bank accounts

I am looking for a basic bank account with a debit card but no possibility of an overdraft. Virgin have one but it is only open th bankrupts. Nationwide don't offer any accounts without overdraft facility, and Halifax won't prevent the debit card from taking you into overdraft. Any suggestions? It has taken me most of the day in call queues to get this far. I can't believe it is this difficult!

Nationwide do offer a Basic bank account without an overdraft.

It's not - you just look at the Bank's websites.

but you still need discipline = your contactless payment won't be declined

Try Starling, or talk to Natwest / RBS about their overdraft control service

No bank/ building society will be able to guarantee an account with no possibility of an overdraft.

Nationwide..co op  Barclays all have basic bank accounts

If you don’t need to make direct debit payments from the account then the Metro Bank cash account is open to everyone, not just people with poor or limited credit history.
