Missing Currys Order

Hi, i'm looking for a bit of advise with an order problem with Currys. I ordered a Fridge-Freezer on Black Friday from their website, which was due to be delivered on the 5th Dec. I payed with PayPal and received a confirmation email from PayPal, but didn't receive a confirmation email from Currys. By the 4th, I still hadn't had a confirmation email and with delivery due the next day, called them. Long story short, but after an hour on the phone, they cannot find any details or my order. I provided them with the PayPal transaction id and invoice number, but they said there is not evidence that I have paid for this or made an order. The money has left my account (credit card) and the purchase on PayPal is in the 'Complete' status. I also went through Quidco and can see the purchase has tracked there, so I can only imagine that Currys have had a technical issue (maybe with the increased traffic on Black Friday?). Either way, i'm now £300 out of pocket and Currys are refusing to do anything as they said I can't prove I made the purchase. Apparently a PayPal invoice is not evidence. I have raised a complaint with Currys and plan on opening a dispute with PayPal. Is this my best option? I'm unsure what my rights are in this case.

Curry's website had a meltdown, you should ask PayPal to refund the money. Also note that you are far better protected (Chargeback and S75) if you pay the supplier direct with your credit card, rather than doing it through PayPal.0

Thank you both for your replies. I'll start the PayPal refund process. Also note that you are far better protected (Chargeback and S75) if you pay the supplier direct with your credit card, rather than doing it through PayPal.
That's interesting as I had always though I was better protected using my credit card through PayPal as had thought I would be getting double protection in the event that something went wrong.
