Windows Mail (Vista) - Export Messages Error

I've had problems with my PC but have just rolled back to a previous state.

Things are still very slow and I'm planning on a complete restore. I'm trying to export my emails from Windows Mail (Outlook Express for vista). When I try I'm getting an error (screenshot). The next window (screenshot) says it's due to corrupted messages or lack of space.

It's not a lack of space as there is over 200GB free on external hard drive. The email messages are opening fine, haven't been able to check them all but the ones I have are ok.

Searched Microsoft and DELL for help but found nothing in terms of troubleshooting. I was thinking of copying the store folder contents but not sure whether that would restore all messages - has anyone tried this and knows whether it works?!

Any help much appreciated - everything else has been backed up, just emails remain!
