Academic reference for UCAS

Hi
I know this isnt really moneysaving, but I need some advice!
I want to apply (through ucas I think) for an FdSc but I have absolutely no idea what I should for an academic reference. I had to leave the degree I was studying about 5 years ago due to illness, so I wouldnt want them to give me a reference I dont think. Also It was quite a while ago. I have started a couple of courses since then but not completed them, so no reference there. The only other option would be my sixth form, but it is 7 years since I left there, so I dont think that would be possible either.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks!

What about a reference from an employer? I'd phone the institution and ask them what they would like in terms of a reference, just say you've been out of formal education for a long time. Lots of returners to education are in the same situation. best of luck cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

I havnt been working either so no employer reference. Im a bit stuck really. The course is at my local college, who have an open day tomorrow, so I think I will go along to that and see what they suggest.
In the meantime, if any of you lovely moneysavers have any thoughts, I would be grateful to hear them!0 -
How did you get on with the courses that you started but did not complete? If you stayed long enough to demonstrate your abilities, then they could still provide a helpful reference. Try asking and see what they say.
And when you visit the College, do ask some questions to make sure that whatever caused you to abandon those earlier courses will not be a problem for this course as well.0 -
Do you have any friends that are in positions of responsibility (not necessarily academics), who would be able to do you a reference?
I am in a similar position to you, although I have been working til I moved four months ago.0 -
I have just been reserahcing on the ucas website and it says that the referee cannot be a friend or relative. I thought it had to be an academic reference, but apparently not.
It also said that it is possible for your institution to agree that you dont need a reference, so I will ask about this at the open day tomorrow, as this would make life much easier!
Thanks everyone for your help!0
