Survey timing

Hi.
I am about to sell my house and hopefully buy another at the same time. Assuming I get an offer on my home and then move forward to then put another offer on a new home, when should I get a survey done on my new home - before or after I make an offer? Advice is appreciated.

  • Once your offer is accepted, you have the survey done.  If it throws up problems that you haven't seen during your viewing, it may be possible to renegotiate the price.

    a survey happens when you apply for a mortgage as the bank will need to value the property in order to approve your mortgage application.  it is often done by the bank, but you would have to pay for it.

    we sold a flat recently and because of covid 19, the bank did not survey the flat but did a desktop valuation.  the buyer didn't instruct a full survey so there was never a surveyor sent round.  i think the buyer could have paid for a surveyor to come round but he chose not to.
