Council tax first time renter

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me and my partner have just moved into our first rented house, we moved in on the 20th of November 2020 and have informed the local council, we received our council tax bill we are under band E and normally would pay around £186 per month over a 12 month basis, however I have been billed just under £800 and have to pay £260 January, February and March, and then from April start the normal £186 please could someone tell me of this is right?
As I am new to all this and can’t get my head around it
thanks

You have presumably been billed £780 which results in three payments of £260.   That is about right, ie 4.2 months from 20 Nov to 31 March.  The payments are to settle the bill, you don't pay the bill *and* make the payments if that is what you were thinking.

The 780 is the total owed for this year.
They have just broken it down for you
    I'e  3 x 260 is 780

Councils usually give "free" months in Feburary & March though of course these are not free.

So your payments are condensed into 3 payments instead of 4.5

If works out at the sum you were expecting had it been spread out.

You can also pay by 12 payments per year...I find it easier to budget
