It should be free.
Did you do it through https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence-at-70?
There is no £79 fee for anything.0 -
You have gone through site that has offered to do,the applying for you.
They charge you for supplying this service.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I got mine back in July and it was free.0

If it’s the one that comes out top of google, they do charge £79.But they do also say “ please note that we do charge a service fee and we are in no way affilliated with the UK Government or the DVLA. You can apply directly with the DVLA for a reduced cost” further down the page. Which you might miss if you go straight to the apply here button.
OP, I also think you’ve gone through a third party site rather than directly,All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
Thank you for the reply's guys.
I guess I've been a dummy and simply gone to the first option in Google.
I do feel I've been conned by this though, they should add it's chargeable straight away IMHO
I realise I should've read though it thoroughly but I just assumed it was free, like these shysters think we will, and happily take our money. Ba***rds.

Rich Ba***rds, caveat emptor.2

Don't know what you managed to do but the first option on Google for me is the Gov.uk site, then a second one, then Age UK etc. There is no site charging £79 on there. I checked this on Edge as well, as I have no add-ons for ad blocking on that and can't see a site that charges you

The first I get (Google) is "licence safe", fee £79. £113 for a provisional. £99 for an exchange licence or replacement photocard. Mind you, they do check that you've spelt your name correctly on your application. Not bad for £79!1

Search Engine Optimisation is a service offered by many companies. Basically, you pay them to ensure your company comes up near the top of the results page. It’s a service that many companies pay for because, as demonstrated by this thread, few people bother looking beyond the first page of search results. It’s also a lucrative service to offer because the search engines (mainly Google I guess) often change their search ranking criteria, so if you want to ensure your website always comes up at or near the top of any search you basically have to permanently subscribe to such a service.
A friend started a small but specialised business and was spending around £5k per year for such a service. It worked but he felt it was too expensive to maintain so now does it himself, though it takes a lot of his time.1 -
