Just moved into new house. No Gas, what do I do

The gas is on a pre payment card meter. It says £112 is owed.
I obviously need gas on pronto and want to be on a direct debit payment. How do I go about this?

You need to register with the incumbent supplier.
You may be challenged and have to prove your identity because they may suspect that the former occupant hasn't scarpered and is merely pretending to be the new occupant !
You then need to get a new card PDQ, otherwise you'll be paying off someone else's debt.  Top up the existing card with small amounts in the meantime.
Once you're up and running with a 'clean' card, you can then switch to a credit tariff.  Ask for the relevant debt payments to be refunded from the time you took possession.

    Adding to the above reply:
    1. Find out who your supplier is and contact them.
    2. Ask to speak to their prepayment team and explain that you wish to have a credit account.
    3. They will explain the process and help you get started.
    4. You may be asked to send them your tenancy agreement or check-in report as proof to create an account.
