New car?
Hi Guy's,
I had a couple of questions and was hoping for some opinions or if anyone has similar experience.
I got my first car back in March (Vauxhall Corsa SRI 2017) and I really like it. I took this out on finance through Evans Halshaw which from reading on here, proberbly was not the best option due to interest rates and customer service. I had no one to help me when I did this and with it being my first car, I wasn't sure what to do, so I went with this option. My credit was not great so this was my best option.
Anyway, it should be paid after 5 years, but I was thinking of part exchanging after around 2 years. I just wanted to ask, if I keep up my payments would my credit increase to the point where I could get a new car from an offical dealer such as Vauxhall, Seat Etc. I don't know how strict the credit check is with offical dealers so any advice would be great.
Also, does anyone have any opions on either a Vauxhall Mokka, Crossland, Grandland or a Seat Ateca? Just those are the ones iv'e looked at as an upgrade. I know it'll be a while off now, but was curious if any of these maybe any good.
Thanks

If you want a Grandland or Crossland, also check out the Peugeot 3008/2008 as they’re the same thing underneath, and you may get a better deal on the Pugs.1

Your credit record will depend on the entirety of your financial life, not just whether you keep up payments on your car finance. Obviously, if you fail to keep up payments on your car finance, then that will affect your record negatively...Also, does anyone have any opions on either a Vauxhall Mokka, Crossland, Grandland or a Seat Ateca? The car industry is a very complicated thing, with a lot of cars sharing a lot with other cars, and the badges can be more or less irrelevant to that.
Vauxhall is, as I'm sure you know, just a UK badge-swap for Opel. As @walwyn1978 says, the Vauxhall Grandland and Crossland are some of the first products from their ownership by PSA, Peugeot-Citroen, who bought Opel from GM in 2016.
The Grandland is the same car as the Pug 3008/5008, Cit C5 Aircross, DS7.
The Crossland is the same car as the pre-2019 Pug 2008, Cit C3 Aircross. The post-2019 2008 and DS3 Crossback are a generation newer, basically the same car as the new Corsa and 208 - and same as the new Mokka.
The pre-2020 Mokka is a much, much older and lower-rent design, a buy-in from GM Korea.
Your current Corsa is based on Fiat underpinnings, sharing more with the Alfa MiTo, Fiat 500L, 500X and Jeep Renegade than anything else in the Vauxhall or Peugeot-Citroen ranges.
The Seat Ateca is yet another variation of the ubiquitous VW Golf, sharing almost everything with the Skoda Karoq and VW T-Roc, and all the underpinnings and mechanicals with almost everything small-to-midsize from any of the VAG brands.
Which are "good"? Test drive them. See which you like.2 -
Just to add, presuming you didn't put in much deposit initially, then after 2 years, you'll be lucky to break even on the value of the car versus the outstanding finance.
There are many influencing factors, but I've found it will be 3 to 4 years before you owe the same, or less than the car is worth1 -
If you really like the car, why do you want to get rid of it after two years? How about paying down the finance, and keeping the car for a few more years.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.3 -
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to comment and for the advice. I was more curious than anything really about how this would work because iv'e never done this before. I appriciate all the advice and I think I'm gonna stick with my Corsa until it starts giving me trouble (where it's costing more to fix than it's worth) as it's a great little car. I was asking because I have family telling me to upgrade to 2.0 BMW's etc which I'm not a fan of anyway, but was wondering how to go about the process later on if I did want something different. Thank you Ectophile as what you say makes sense so I think I'll stick to what I have for now.
Thanks Everyone.0 -
