ABI Code - Insurance problem.
Hi All,
Long story but I'm having problems trying to insure my second car as it isn't listed on any insurance database, so I've been in touch with Thatcham Research who were extremely helpful and quickly assigned an ABI code to my vehicle and updated their database. However the insurance companies & brokers haven't updated their records so still can't insure my vehicle; have emailed & telephoned numerous attempts to my brokers, insurance companies and even the ABI but no joy yet. Was hoping that someone on here works in the insurance industry so could advise me?
(Interestingly GoCompare & Confused.com do list my vehicle, but as insurance companies don't recognise my vehicle they come up with zero quotes)
Paul.

Not at all helpful but what is it out of interest?0

You will have to either wait until they update their systems or speak to a specialist broker as they will be able to talk direct to underwriters and deal with it manually0

Haven't tried Chris Knott, will look into it. You're right about "the computer says no" mindset that seems to permeate all things these days.0

You want the absolute cheapest premiums? Then things are going to get deskilled and automated.
You want intelligent, experienced professionals with the authority to make decisions? Then the policy is going to cost a bit more.0 -

Cannot say for any “car database”, dont recall ever dealing with one, but the big insurers tended to buy the latest post code database lookup every 3-6 months back in my day and dozens of new buildings go up every day... new cars being released are much rarer0 -
Ingold said:Sandtree said:Why’d you assume that? Data updates can cause failures and often you have to buy each update.
But Manufactures do not release new cars everyday.
Anyway this is about a >>>2007 Alfa Romeo GT, whilst still fairly common mine is a unique model in UK, suspect it may have been a special order or personal import.<<<
This is a 13 year old car. So given that, the model looks like it was never released to the UK. So OP is going to really look at one of the specialist brokers & not one of the usual large suspects.
