Another possibility perhaps is that the card is unreliable on certain terminals again no idea if that can happen.
It's been a long time since I visited an ATM to get a contactless card to work, not since tsb were offering 5% cash back on contactless purchases and so I never ever wanted to enter the PIN in a shop (fortunately I had two that I could cycle between).
it did cross my mind with it only being denied on public transport that was the problem as its been denied twice on different occasions i'm not sure why/if some terminals would work but others don't it has worked prior to this though so my hunch is that it either needs to be unlocked at an ATM or the nfc chip is somehow damaged as i believe thats what makes contactless transactions work.0 -
Looking forward to your ATM-visit report!1

Savers don’t accept Amex but other cards should be accepted by them.0

i was able to unlock the pin at the ATM earlier this week and then used it today contactless at a local store so hopefully thats the problem resolved.
I won't be using public transport for a week or more which was where the original problem started so the theory of it not working on certain terminals might still crop up but i'm hoping thats not the problem.
thanks again for your suggestion

It helped me. I’ve had exactly this problem with an MBNA MasterCard for several months. I followed your procedure and so far so good, the contactless functionality is working. Thanks.
