This was before the Argos announcement, but to be fair they have got back to precovid levels. I think they backed the wrong horse with Argos, Stick and mortar shops are now becoming out of favourAlexland said:

Forgotten birthday present for child party
Blow up bed for tonight's visitor doesn't blow up anymore
Kettle is broken
But only just. Amazon same day deliveries are become more and more available.0 -
I like the convenience with Amazon and the depth of products they sell, Obviously I ignore the chinese knock offs with high numbers of suspicious +ve reviews. Stick to branded products. Their next day delivery with Prime is useful.Prism said:

Now if you'd invested in gold it would have been fine, gold isn't paying anything back to the government.0

The stand alone Argos stores were still closed and unprofitable during the lockdowns before it was decided to not reopen some of them and close others. I agree buying Argos was probably a bad move reminds me of the Dixons Carphone situation. It makes you wonder if Sainsburys and Dixons were left with enough residual value after closing down the Argos and Carphone stores compared to what they could have achieved in just organically building up their own internal catalogue or phone divisions.csgohan4 said:This was before the Argos announcement, but to be fair they have got back to precovid levels. Although as a kid, I used to enjoy just browsing the catalogue and admiring the quantity of stuff they had at the time, with the advent of online shopping, that novelty has worn off , although was nostalgic for meAlexland said:

Sainsburys and Aldi have followed suit.
Boy a lot of nonsense does get written these days.1 -
As reported elsewhere, Shore Capital analysts have described Tesco's actions as 'predatory' and that it "impedes its competitors’ financial progress". Seems a smart move.1

Indeed. And a free market capitalist Government would not intervene in the housing market to push up prices. Restricting supply with the worlds most onerous planning system, whilst stoking up demand with taxpayer funded subsidies like so-called 'Help to Buy'NottinghamKnight said:
A truly capitalist economy wouldn't be handing that money out in the first place, just sink or swim with the related consequences, so paying it back is just a nil sum game unless you think large listed companies should be subject to government subsidies.EdGasketTheSecond said:I see we are living in a socialist country; sad days.
