Change locks?

  • If you do change the locks, pay the extra and get the anti snap barrels. It will be a good security upgrade on what's already there.

We've never changed locks.  The only burglary was forced entry.
We bought a house we didnt move i to straight away, there was a dead baby mouse in the back room on day of completion, came back the next day with a means of disposal, it had disappeared.............

I've never done it. But maybe we've just been lucky. That's not to say I'd never change them but, to be honest, it's never even crossed my mind 😮

Due to complete tomorrow........is my first job to change ALL the door locks? or do people not bother?
What other people do is not really relevant.  The only thing that really matters is your own peace of mind.
  • I've changed the locks at both places we've bought and will do in the future. Maybe not on the first day because they need to be measured up but it's a five minute job for most locks. My first place used to be a rental and I didn't know how many keys were out there. The second house had been a family house but you just don't know who has been given a spare key over the years. A quick swap out while someone puts the kettle on and you can be sure that the only people who've got a key are people you've given a key to. It's also an opportunity to upgrade the locks. Most people seem to have cheap locks but I've always gone for the securest I can find. Your house doesn't have to be impenetrable but I figure it only needs to be harder to get into than next door!

We changed ours, as I like the kind with a thumb-turn, not another key inside as I'm paranoid about getting out in a fire. The fire brigade think I'm sensible, the police think I'm making it easier for burglars. I need a paramedic to chime in to fully make up my mind on who's right, I think.
