Which platform??

Hi! I have a couple of index trackers with Vanguard but I'd like to hold a handful of individual shares and would appreciate some advice on which platform to choose. I'm interested in small companies doing interesting things in the green economy. They may be based overseas or not and once picked I'd likely hold them for a while - I'm not interested in regular trading at this stage. The initial investments would be small. Any thoughts gratefully received!

  • Trading212.  Sign up through a referral link, and you can get a free share up to £100.  In all likelihood it will be Royal Dutch Shell, National Grid or Under Armour.

You can then sell your free share and try out the interface before you decide to invest your own funds.

You need a free platform due to your investment size otherwise costs will eat into your potential profits.

If you do go with Trading 212, do not get sucked in to their CFD trading . The 0% commission on shares is a loss leader and they then hope to tempt you in to more lucrative areas ( that is lucrative for them , not you)

I'm with iWeb, very happy with the service and £5 trade is about as cheap as you can get with no ongoing fees so ideal for long term buy & hold
