I bought some mulled wine in Tesco this week for £2.50 it seemed a good price. However, when I got it home OH noticed the alcohol content was only 5%, really more a "wine flavour drink" than wine. We have to check labels carefully! Last year it was at least 8% alcohol.
I expect that's to stop you getting hopelessly drunk and spreading virus everywhere! 🤣🤣🤣

Incidentally amateurretiree, what's your benchmark for Yorkshire tea? I need to buy some. 🤔
I buy a 480 bag of Yorkshire teabags for £9.50 from Tesco. So I wouldn’t pay more than £4.75 for 240. I have been stocking up though, have about 6 months supply so have no idea of current prices!

Thanks for the heads up, I've just downloaded it and will watch tomorrow.
I watched it last night. It was interesting although not massively surprising.  It was spoiled for me by Helen Skelton's way of speaking but that's personal preference.  The other presenter was fine though so it gave some relief. 😉
Yes, glad I watched it. I must admit I did see myself falling for several of the sales tactics the shops use at Christmas. Good job it's only once a year!
I did laugh a bit at the end though when a man was saying work out what is the cheapest places to buy the items you want and then visit those supermarkets. I'm not sure I'd be willing to visit a raft of supermarkets on the run up to Christmas with the added COVID issues thrown in. Also it would be unlikely that all the shops would be within walking distance so you would most probably be spending as much money on travel as you would for the savings on food.

Yes ignore the offers and benchmark - GREAT POST
For example a famous pizza restaurant also sells its branded pizzas "half price" was £5 now £2.50 for a small one. Still not worth it..
    Coffee benchmark £2/100G
    Artisan Crisps benchmark £1/100G or 5 Packets / 100G
    etc

Jacobs Douwe Egbert owns Polish brand Prima. Morrisons sells 250g bags for 1.75, that's 70p per 100g.

@MrsStepford I looked in Morries, my branch doesn`t stock it,
Thinking about I need T,bags, I have 1 cup a day, coffee drinker, I keep in stock for visitors, and wondering whether there would be any interest in starting a thread when a bargain is spotted, Item, price, offer expiry, where.

  • Tea and coffee prices can vary quite dramatically from one week to the next. This is Morrisons price for 200g of Nescafé gold blend, for example.

That seems like a very good price! Is it as good as (or better than) Nescafé?

I prefer it, make sure you  get the right strength, I have the dark brown at the bottom label. it`s the strongest, gold blend lost its strength for me.
