Watched a programme I had recorded last night, Channel 5 Wednesday, Supermarket deals, are they worth it, they discussed "offers" examples were loo rolls, 3 differing sizes of the same brand, the huge multi pack 24 I think was more expensive per roll than the medium pack, same with disposable nappies, I will always read the shelf labels, problem there is they will display per item or litre 100 gram etc, but the same item in another size is often displayed in a different format, I am lucky to be able to work things out for myself, retired accountant, they have some interesting consumer programmes on "5"
Do I need it or just want it.

Thanks for that pamsdish. I'll take a look at the programme. Unfortunately with toilet rolls, it gets  really silly as far as the maths is concerned. I bought some only last week. Working out cost per roll was simple enough but if you look at the packs, some rolls have more sheets than others! Mind boggling! (excuse pun)🤣
  • Coffee, washing detergent, fabric softener, loo roll, Yorkshire tea, shampoo, conditioner. These are all things I will only have a certain brand of so I stock up on it when Tesco, where I do online shopping, have it on special offer. For Instance, I only like Carte Noir Instant coffee, but I will buy 6 jars when it’s £4 a jar so I don’t have to buy any when it’s £6.49 a jar!

I bought some mulled wine in Tesco this week for £2.50 it seemed a good price. However, when I got it home OH noticed the alcohol content was only 5%, really more a "wine flavour drink" than wine. We have to check labels carefully! Last year it was at least 8% alcohol.

I expect that's to stop you getting hopelessly drunk and spreading virus everywhere! 🤣🤣🤣

Incidentally amateurretiree, what's your benchmark for Yorkshire tea? I need to buy some. 🤔

Breaded frozen  fish (Cod, Haddock) usually gets a double bench mark from me - 1. % Fish; 2. Price.
Assuming its ok I look for around £6 or less/kg. The brands are very expensive often around £9/kg - one area where supermarket products win hands down. Lidl ocean trader stuff has been good in my experience, but also had good stuff from Tesco.

Another interesting consumer programme last night, Channel 4, Luxury Christmas For Less, they tested various items, 13 brands mince pies, Waitrose won, M&S last, but interestingly the CO-OP was second, they discussed the popularity of turkey crowns, forget the price details but a crown is nearly twice the price per kilo of a whole bird, 3 swipes of his very sharp knife, turkey crown, and you had the legs and back frame for other meals.

Thanks, I'll watch it on catch up. I found the problem with the Co-op is that because there are many different Co-ops nationally that they don't all stock the recommended products so you need to be sure what the pack description is. I've tried to buy a recommended  Christmas pudding and smoked salmon in two different branches (different Co-ops, different livery) locally and they didn't have them in either. They did sell salmon and pudding but not the recommended ones.

I watched it last night. It was interesting although not massively surprising.  It was spoiled for me by Helen Skelton's way of speaking but that's personal preference.  The other presenter was fine though so it gave some relief. 😉
